Circa 50's Gilli Originals Sphere Topped Lid

This is a Beautiful Gilli Originals with a White Base and a Clear Starburst
Carved Lid with Sphere. This lovely bag is featured in "Carry Me! 1950's Lucite
Handbags an American Fashion" by Janice Berkson on page 43 with a gunmetal body
and clear lid and listed as from 1953. The lid on this lovely is extra thick
and carved on the outside and the inside. This carving on both sides I have not
seen before and it looks like Glass. The bottom is a marbled white. Any shadows
or shading you see are from the sunlight, not the purse.

Some History of the Gilli Originals Handbags - The company Associated Plastics
manufactured frames and ornaments for handbag manufacturers in the 1940's. In
1946 they were making "shell" frames for many handbag companies. It wasn't long
before they started making lucite handbags under the trade name "Gilli
Originals". Then they combined the seductive power of what New Yorkers wanted
in black and clear, and black and rhinestones, along with "resort" bags in
cream and yellow lucite.

Height - 4.5" without the handles, 9.5" with the handles
This handbag will easily hold most size Cell Phones, plus your other
necessaries.

Near MINT Condition - This Gilli Originals Handbag is in Near Mint Condition.
There is no odor, cracks, or clouding. If you do a very close examination two
of handle spacers are white and two are clear. Apparently it was manufactured
like this and it is not a concern. There is a very light scratch on the left
front handle (hard to photograph, see the next to the last photo). This is a
Pretty Bag to Add to Your Collection or to Carry Dressed Up or Casual. It would
also make a Fabulous Wedding Handbag!
